A noun is the name of a person, place or thing, e.g. table, field, spoon.

A verb is the doing or action word, e.g. run, make, do.

An adjective is a word that describes or qualifies a noun or pronoun, e.g. a 'big' firm.

An adverb is a word that describes or qualifies a verb, e.g. he runs 'slowly'.
